You will learn about the four stages of metabolism: ingestion, digestion, respiration, and excretion, and how the cell completes them. These two processes are interdependent on each other. The steps of metabolism are the same for any species. First the cell must ingest glucose through active transport. The glucose is ingested through the cell membrane. There are only 2 ATPs yielded in each glucose. An ATP is an energy enriched molecule. That is not enough energy to completely digest it. It is just enough energy to get it to the mitochondria. The enzymes in the mitochondria respire. Also now it has 34 ATPs. Then the lysosomes fully digest it. Then the all the waste is excreted by the golgi bodies and vacuoles. The cell has fully metabolized. Now the process starts over. Mitosis is the process in which a cell divides into two new cells. The four steps of mitosis are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telephase. The step where the cell prepares for mitosis is called interphase. During interphase all of the chromosomes duplicate, and then are joined at the centrimere. Now mitosis begins, first in prophase all of the chromosomes then gather in the center of the cell, and the two centrioles go to opposite ends of the cell. Also the nucleic membrane breaks down. Next in metaphase the two centrioles create polymers called spindle fibers, that go across the whole cell. For every chromosome there is a spindle fiber. The chromosomes attach them selves onto the spindle fibers, in the middle, or the equator of the cell. In anaphase the duplicated chromosomes separate from each other, and each chromatid goes to an end of the cell. In the last step of mitosis, telephase the cell membrane breaks, and then closes off, leaving two new daughter cells. The two new daughter cells will go through same process. Cell metabolism, and cell mitosis are alike in a few ways. Both of the functions are completed in four main steps. A cell must do both of those things, to stay alive. Also, reproduction and metabolism are two of the five qualifications of a living organism (grow/develop, move, reproduce, metabolize, respond to a stimulus). This paper is interested in identifying how Machiavelli’s theory applies to the political situation in China. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is currently facing inevitable political and economic changes. The country is shifting from strict socialism to socialist-capitalistic market economy. The paper will specifically address the in-depth correlation of Machiavelli’s power theory with China. The analysis will include the steps that should be taken by the Chinese regime to sustain their political power. China political situation The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has ruled the country for more than six decades, a longevity that can only be compared to that of th e Communist party of the Soviet Union5. The CCP came to power in 1949 after defeating the forces of Chiang Kai- shek Nationalists in a civil war. The Chiang Kai-shek moved their republic of China seats to Taiwan, leaving the CCP to rule mainland of China. The CCP later named the country as People’s Republic of China (PRC). Since then, China’s political institutions and political culture have changed significantly6. The CCP’s readiness to adapt can be partly used to explain why it has maintained control on power. Fierce differences are being witnessed even among the nine members of the Politburo Standing committee and the 25- member Politburo8. The two represent the highest decision making organs in China. Competition and conflicts also exist among different ministries; between ministries and provincial administrations, which are bureaucratically ranked equal; between different provinces; and between the various service units of the military. It is common when the military disagree with the foreign ministry. On various occasions, the delegates of the National People’s Congress (Weak legislature) try to track back on the government’s decisions, the courts and the prosecutor’s office9. This can be depicted as modest forms of political pluralization that are beginning to take place in China. Moreover, there are other political actors w ho are increasingly influence policy debates. Such actors are now able to join forces and push for a particular cause, they include an increasingly independent media, both private and state owned corporations, official and quasi-official research institutes, officially sponsored societies and associations, universities, and grassroots and non-governmental organizations10. Historically, a political system is usually tested by the ability to manage political transitions. The CPC will hold its 18th National congress later in the year and it is expected to appoint new leadership11. Xi Jinping currently holds the fifth position in the party’s official rank and is expected to assume the position of CPC’s generally secretary from Hu Jintao, who is going into retirement12. The CPC has done all it could to portray the transition as a routine practice that cannot be avoided. Historically, only two transitions were relatively incident free. The first was from Deng Xiaoping who ca n be identified as China’s last supreme leader, to a collective leadership led by a party general, Jiang Zemin, following Xiaoping’s death13. I found a great affinity In this band long before I knew who Jim Morrison was, or what he had done, and once I knew this mans story, it has unlocked the poetical mysteries in his lyrical melodies, and I have an even deeper love for The Doors music. This man also introduced me to some feat poets and philosophers I would never have read, such as Nietzsche philosophies, or Armbands poetry, which fuelled Morrison thirst for knowledge at a young age. At school, Morrison excelled at the verbal arts, filling his schoolbooks with poetry and writings way above his age, and did his book reviews on weird and fantastical and old volumes, such as ones about 16th century demons in England, and other mysterious titles. After school, he drifted around, then moved to Los Angels and enrolled at UCLA but spent most of his time at Venice Beach in California, using drugs, LSI was his favorite, and partying and getting horribly drunk. He was studying film at the university, and all his practical pieces of film were over-conceptualized and post-modern, which went flying over the heads of the professors who subsequently failed him. But he retook the course much to his fathers dislike, and then later passed the course. Making films and being in cinema had never really interested Jim enough into making a career out of it, and his goal was Just to pass the easiest and most interesting course he could. So he went back to Venice Beach, his only real home he felt at that time, and slept under boardwalks and on the roof of his unknowing friends house, took loads of drugs, wrote poetry, and got really drunk lot. This was the first time he wrote his poems or songs. He would get high on LSI, and then take notes at the fantastical music concerts going on inside his head. He had drifted right into the centre of the hippie lifestyle there. One day, he met Ray Manger, an old university classmate and keyboardist in a struggling rock band. When Jim showed Ray some of his poems, and sung them out loud at his request, Ray Insisted they form a band and sing Jims poems. Ray and Jim then recruited drummer John Denser, a friend from Jims meditation class, and guitarist Robbery Krieger. At first, the four played at Rays house In his garage, whilst searching for gigs, or any chance at all to play. They got into some cheap, downtown pubs and bars, but mostly were kicked out because of loud noise or Jims suggestive gestures on stage that got the girls in the crowd excited. They got a longer set of gigs at a bar allied Whiskey a Go Go, which they kept despite getting fired by the manager at least once a week because of Jims disgusting mouth, or screaming, or his sensual gestures. The group was soon known for its wild and charismatic stage personality, and its hypnotic music, highlighted by Rays church yet eerie keyboard playing, Robbery flamenco-classical guitar, Johns Jazzy drumming and Jims deep, sensual, mysterious voice. Jim had, over time, befriended a girl who used to come watch his performances at Whiskey a Go Go, and occasionally he crashed at her place. She was working for a producing company called Elektra Records, and eventually got a contract for The Doors. They soon began working on and eventually released their first album in January 1967, titled The Doors, which immediately received universal acclaim, with Jim being the chief lyricist. Their songs ranged from ones about taking obscene amounts of drugs like Break on Through, to ones of huge personal and poetic significance like the 11-minutes one The End. The song Light My Fire became a hit for the group and projected them to no. 1 on the charts. By now, Jim had gained a public reputation for erratic and wild behavior, ND was even accused and charged for many different actions, like on December 9, 1967, Jim was arrested onstage during a concert in Connecticut for attempting to incite a riot against the police, and again in 1969, where during a concert in Miami, Jim was arrested afterwards for exposing his phallus to the audience and using profanity. When the last of his appeals for his many charges against him was denied and the possibility of Jail hanging over him, as well as his fast, stressful lifestyle, Jim decided that he was through being a rock and roll star and in 1971 he and his relined moved to Paris, where he intended to continue his literary ambitions. But, tragically life must take its toll, and on July 3, 1971, Jim Morrison was found dead in his bathtub in his apartment in Paris at the age of 27. The local police listed the cause of death as heart failure, although most assume that his heart failure drug related, and there was no autopsy. Three years later, in 1974, Jims girlfriend died in Paris from a heroin overdose. Coincidentally she too was 27 years old when she died. This is the tragic story of a hedonistic man who believed that Music is an expression f pure JOY, one who believed we are all masters of our fate and captains of our souls. But on Jim Morrison tombstone lies the words True to his destiny, and though many say he was into pure hedonism, or Just a trouble-causer, or he Just wanted to have fun and get high, I believe he expressed it truly in his own words. It is considered to be the  Western Hemispheres largest oil discovery of the last 30 years. â€Å"BRAZIL’S discovery of oodles of offshore oil in 2006 felt like a transformative moment. † (Paulo 2012) The Lula field was discovered in October 2006 by Petrobras, with the well flowing 4,900 barrels per day of sweet 30 degrees API crude oil, 0. 7 sulphur content and 4. 3  million cubic feet per day (120,000 cubic metres per day) of gas from a deep sub-salt reservoir on a  16  mm choke. The former president of Brazil,  Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva  called the field second independence for Brazil. The field was originally named Tupi but in 2010 it was renamed Lula. The name Lula means a mollusc in Portuguese but also refers to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The upper estimate of 8  billion barrels (1. 3 billion cubic metres) of recoverable oil would be enough to meet the total global demand for crude oil for about three months at the 2008 global extraction rate of around 85 million barrels per day. In January 2008 Petrobras announced the discovery of the  Jupiter field, a huge  natural gas  andcondensate  field which could equal the Lula oil field in size. It lies 37 kilometres east of Lula. Block BM-S-11, which contains the Lula field, is operated by  Petrobras  with a 65% controlling stake while  BG Group  holds 25% and  Galp Energia  has the remaining 10% interest. Mother Teresa There are many people in this world that we consider great humanitarians. Mother Teresa was a unique individual that stood out of the crowd because of her involvement in helping the sick, poor and dying. She spent everyday of her adulthood caring for people that were in need by setting up the Missionary of Charity along with many homes for the people she cared for. Mother Teresa won many awards throughout her lifetime for her dedication to care for people in need. It is no wonder that Mother Teresa won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and is considered a saint. Anges Goxha Bojaxhiu was brought into this world on August 26, 1910 but considers her real birth date August 27, 1910, the day of her baptism. Anges was born into a Roman Catholic family although many Albanians at the time were Muslims. Even though her father died when she was nine, her mother made sure her children were well educated. "They prayed every evening, went to church everyday, prayed the rosary every day in May and assisted the service for the Holy Virgin."1 She really enjoyed going to church because she loved to read, pray and sing. Agnes made a very difficult decision at the age of eighteen that changed her life. She decided to join the Sisters of Loretto, which was a community of Irish nuns with a mission in the Archdices of Calcutta. Michelle Hatton-Cowan Professor Micah Parker BHSR-115-01 16 March 2013 Putting the Pieces Together While recently putting a puzzle together with my family I realized that we had a very certain way of putting it together. We had the person who laid out all the pieces and was constantly looking for the ones that went together. Another person would carefully put pieces together that the first person had laid out and make sure there were no discrepancies. The last person would oversee everyone else.They would make sure pieces were going where they should be, and everyone would report back to the main person who was overseeing everything. If one was to look at any career or field they have trained in or worked in they would see that there is a hierarchy to each position. It is one person helping the next person to figure out one main objective or goal. The Careers of a Cytologist, Histologist, and Pathologist work very closely together; so closely it’s almost like they are putting a puzzle together, in such a way one can’t just do all of the jobs but there must be someone in each area of the field to complete the main objective. Read Chapter 8 Microbial GeneticsCytologists are the people working on the puzzle that lay the pieces out for the person in charge to oversee and direct them at what they should be looking for. They are â€Å"biologists who specialize in the study of formation, structure, and function of cells† (â€Å"cytology†). I like that fact that they have independent work with very little supervision. There is room for rapid job growth. A reported â€Å"14% job growth through 2018† (Tolia). I do not like that cytologist’s have major exposure to specimens and chemical fumes that can be very hazardous.There may be a rapid job growth projected for cytologists but only â€Å"thirty-one accredited cytotechnologist programs are available in the United States† (Tolia). Cytologists can work in many different health care facilities. They have the option of working in â€Å"hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, physicians’ offices, outpatient care centers and home health care† (Tolia). To become a cytologist, one will need to complete a bachelor’s degree program and finish a one to two year program accredited by the Commission of Allied Health Education Programs in Cytotechnology. Most Employers prefer that the cytologist pass the ASCP’s ational Technologist in Cytoechnology certification exam. A cytologist must complete this program every three years to remain certified (Tolia). â€Å"Cytologists are either paid by the hour or through an annual salary. According to Salary. com, the median annual income for a cytologist is $62,401, with the least well compensated quarter of practitioners making less than $56,810 and the highest paid quarter making over $$67,386. According to Payscale, cytologists command an average salary of between $24. 47 and $31. 20 per hour, with standard time-and-a-half rates for overtime† (Wolfe).Cytologist’s play a large role in medical decisions and work closely with pathologists. â €Å"Cytologists can also gain industry recognition by submitting their written articles for publication and applying for front-cover exposure in the ASCT's publication† (Tolia). Cytologists must know how to read the doctor’s orders by using their knowledge of Medical terminology. Cytologists must use and communicate with their knowledge of Medical Terminology because all the work they do ultimately goes back to the doctor and goes along in response to the original order.When a cytologist is reporting they will also report to the histologist who â€Å"plays an important role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease† (Torres). The next step in putting more pieces of the puzzle together is the histologist. The histologist â€Å"examines and analyzes cells and body fluids. They search for parasites, bacteria and other microorganisms† (Torres). I like that histologists â€Å"work in medical laboratories with pathologists and other laboratory expe rts† (Torres). Histology is a very important tool of medicine and biology.I like that they serve as a detective trying to figure out different diseases and cell structures. Histology would not be a job for me because I do not like the many hours spent on my feet observing tiny little particles though a microscope. I do not have the time, patience, or eye sight for this job. Histologists must have very good eyesight to be able to point out the discrepancies in cells, which good eyesight is something I don’t have. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for histologists will grow about 14 percent between 2006 and 2016. The median hourly wage for histologists in the United States is $22. 68 per hour and their median annual salary is $47,174, according to the Mayo Clinic† (Gray). Histologists have the opportunity to work in many different career settings including; the hospital, diagnostic laboratories, and many different outpatient settings. â€Å"Fo r an entry-level position as a histologist, an applicant will need to have a bachelor's degree with a major in medical technology or one of the life sciences.Bachelor's degrees in this field will usually include courses in chemistry, microbiology, statistics and biological sciences, as well as specialized courses devoted to skills used in the clinical laboratory. However, it is possible to fill some positions while having a combination of on-the-job training and formal education. Generally, one will usually have at least an associate's degree. Many employers require applicants to have certification from recognized professional associations, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Medical Technologist or the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel† (Torres).Histologists are important to our United States Health Care System because they are like the detectives of disease, and play an important role in the detection, diagnosis and treatmen t of disease. Histologists use their knowledge of Medical Terminology to read what orders the doctors have given to them. They are able to follow the guidance of the pathologist, who histologists work very closely with, to determine probable diseases and to diagnose a patient. The last person to put pieces of our puzzle together is the pathologist. A  pathologist  is a physician who examines tissues, checks the accuracy of lab tests, and interprets the results in order to facilitate the patient’s diagnosis and treatment† (â€Å"Pathologist†). They oversee the cytologist and the histologist. I love that pathologists work very closely with the doctor and the patient on a daily basis. Pathology has many different career opportunities including a clinical pathologist, anatomic pathologist and a forensic pathologist. I do not like the scrutiny that is placed on their job.If they mess up one little thing or read a smear of cells the wrong way and give the wrong dia gnose it could be fatal for the patient. â€Å"There are approximately  13,000 to 14,000 board certified pathologists in the United States who practice their specialty. Starting salaries  for newly-certified pathologists can range from about $126,000 to $150,000 per year† (â€Å"Pathologist†). Pathologists have the opportunity to work in the community, in universities, in government hospitals and clinics, independent laboratories, or in private offices, clinics, and other health care acilities (Pathologist). â€Å"In order to work as a pathologist, you must have a successful undergraduate career; score well on your Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and secure a place at a medical school to earn your medical degree (Torres). Medical school is not easy to get into, but after the student secures a place in medical school and finishes with Doctor of Medicine, they must secure a position in a three to four year residency program (Torres). After the residency progra m the student will take a national licensing exam to become certified in their state.Pathologists are extremely important to our United States healthcare system. They are the problem solvers to today’s medical mysteries. Pathologists us their knowledge of medical terminology every day by interpreting laboratory tests that are done by a cytologist and histologist and then they relay that information back to the doctor or patient. The puzzle is now complete with the help of the pathologist. Every person plays an important part of putting the puzzle together. Cytologists help us to identify the different cells and tissues. Histologists help us identify different disease found within the cells and tissues.Lastly, pathologists help us confer all of our results and relay them to the doctor and the patient. One of the most controversial end-of-life decisions is â€Å"physician-assisted suicide† (PAS). This method of suicide involves a physician providing a patient, at his or her own request, with a lethal dose of medication, which the patient self-administers.
